A map of Indian art
Indian art is not a single style. Mughal painting is known for detailed courtly scenes and portraiture; Rajput and Pahari traditions often explore devotion, poetry and landscape. The Bengal School developed around the turn of the twentieth century. The Progressive Artists’ Group, founded in Bombay in 1947, helped shape post-independence modernism. Contemporary artists work across painting, sculpture, video and installation.
